The origins of Assam Meleng Second Flush
Give your morning a boost with our single-origin Assam Meleng FTGFOP tea. A classic black loose leaf tea, its subtle maltiness, honey-like aroma with floral-toasty notes and high caffeine content all make it the perfect breakfast brew.
Grown at 1,200m in the foothills of the Patkai mountains, Northeastern India, the tea leaves from Meleng estate is from Assam's second flush, which is the harvest that runs from late May/early June to late summer. Boasting long leaves with lots of golden tips (FTGFOP stands for Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), this Indian tea, grown from the Assamica camellia Sinensis cultivar, has the malty briskness typical of Assam and complex, comforting flavours of dried raisins and cinnamon. Drink it black for an antioxidant-rich, health-bolstering brew, or soften its tannic richness with a dash of milk. If you're drinking it black, try a squeeze of lemon to enhance its character and let all those lovely robust Assam second-flush qualities come to the fore.

About the Meleng Tea Estate
Meleng estate is an Assam tea garden famous for producing premium-quality orthodox and CTC teas harvested from clonal bushes. Located in the hilly Jorhat district of south-central Assam, Meleng was established in the 1850s, making it one of the oldest tea plantations in the state.
Meleng estate is named for the Meleng river, which cuts through the tea plantation and surrounding countryside. Once rich in biodiversity, this area is still important for wildlife: just down the road is Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary and forest reserve, a refuge for important birdlife and India's only ape species, the hoolock gibbon.
Renowned for producing outstanding golden tippy teas from its century-old tea bushes, Meleng estate has won numerous awards from the Tea Board of India. The estate also has several initiatives to protect its workers – providing its workers with free housing, fuel, medical care and water, and subsidised food and education.
