The origins of our Luxury Pekoe Ceylon Black Tea

Crisp yet smooth, with a comforting aroma of caramel and biscuits, our luxury loose-leaf Ceylon Pekoe tea is a versatile black tea that works equally well as a morning brew or afternoon pick-you-up.

A single-origin tea from Maskeliya in Sri Lanka's hilly Central Province, this bright orange Pekoe leaf tea delivers a brisk, pungent flavour with a velvety mouthfeel and a delicious malty sweetness. Being a strong black tea, it has a high caffeine content, which can help with focus and alertness. It is packed with the antioxidant-rich plant compounds called polyphenols, associated with a range of health benefits, including improved digestion and heart health. Enjoy it as is, for a vegan tea, or even better with a generous splash of milk.

It's the beautifully rolled, evenly graded bold black leaves that give this Pekoe tea its superlatively smooth taste. 'Pekoe' is a high-quality black tea made from young leaves, and this stunning blend is produced using the authentic orthodox style of manufacturing, which has been practised in Sri Lanka for 150 years. It's also a hallmark of teas produced in Maskeliya, located in the shadow of the hauntingly beautiful Adam's Peak, Sri Lanka's iconic 2,243m-high mountain, also known as Sri Pada.

Alternatives to our Sri Lankan Pekoe

High-grown, low-grown, tropical and cool-climate… Ceylon teas are nothing if not varied. At The Tea Makers of London, our tasters have carefully selected a broad spectrum from across the country for you to enjoy. Sri Lanka's high-grown teas are often seen as among the country's best, and of these, we love Adam's Peak and Lover's Leap. For a more delicate style, you could try Nuwara Eliya or, if you're after something lively and smooth, there's Kenilworth. Looking for more full-bodied options? Try our Ahinsa, Ruhuna or Bogawantalawa brews.
