The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food. The awards are the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’. Quite simply, the Great Taste logo is a sign of trustworthy, consistent, high quality food and drink.
In 2016 over 400 judges - including specially trained food writers inputting judges’ comments - came together at 49 judging days from March through to early July.
The winners of the Great Taste Awards are all genuine food people who care about the quality of the food and drink they produce. 10,000 products were submitted to tasting. Only 141 products achieved the highest and most coveted rating - three stars. 878 products were awarded with 2 stars and 2520 were awarded a 1 star. That means only 35% of entries were accredited – only the very finest products received awards.
The Tea Makers of London was awarded with 15 stars at this year’s Great Taste Awards. 10 of the most revered teas, achieved three, two and one-star rankings. The ‘Japanese Sencha Supreme’ received the prestigious three-star award.
