Tea Story

Kandy is the home of tea in Sri Lanka. Loolecondera - the estate on which the pioneering tea-planter James Taylor planted the first commercial tea bushes - is located in Kandy. Teas from Kandyan valley gardens impart a deep-coloured brew with a strong and intensely full-bodied flavour.

The Kandyan tea gardens are dotted across the mountains in Sri Lanka’s central province, and the teas are ‘mid-grown’ at altitudes of cultivation ranging between 650m and 1,300m. The weather in this region is influenced by the south-west monsoon system, with many tea estates clustered in valleys, sheltered form fierce winds. The best teas from Kandy are those harvested in the first quarter of the year, which is dominated by cool, dry weather.

Kandyan teas range in flavour depending on the altitude at which the tea bush is grown. The flavour is also affected by the level of shelter from monsoon winds. Teas from Kandyan valley gardens impart a deep-coloured brew with a strong and intensely full-bodied flavour. We have chosen this evenly graded BOPF for its rich and crisp flavour that truly showcases the quality of the teas made in this region of Sri Lanka. This tea is ideal to enjoy as a breakfast tea.

This tea is flowery and delicate flavour

Having enjoyed the Kenilworth Estate Ceylon I thought I would try something different for a change. This tea is slightly less robust but with a flowery and delicate flavour. An ideal tea for drinking at any time of the day.
