The origins of our Kenilworth Ceylon Black Tea

One of the finest examples of a Ceylon BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe), this single-origin black loose-leaf tea from the prestigious Kenilworth Estate is famed for its lively yet smooth characters.

The lovely bright amber infusion of this single-origin Kenilworth tea yields an aroma that's mildly fruity with a hint of honey. It has evenly graded, deep-black rolled tea leaves is beautifully fragrant and boasts the sweet, pungent flavour that has led to Kenilworth Estate teas being considered as among Sri Lanka's finest. Like many Ceylon black teas, it is delicious drunk with or without milk. It also has health benefits that include being packed with a group of metabolism-boosting flavonoids called catechins, thought to help speed the body's ability to burn fat.

Kenilworth Estate is located at an elevation of 640m in the Dimbula region, west of Sri Lanka's World Heritage-listed southern Central Highlands. Founded in 1880 and named for Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, the estate has been associated with fine-quality teas for decades.

Set amid outstanding natural beauty, Kenilworth tea gardens are nestled between Sri Lanka's longest and most important rivers, the Mahaweli Ganga and the Kelani Ganga. The area experiences an annual rainfall of approximately 4,500mm and enjoys the benefits of both southwest and northeast monsoons. Elevation on the estate varies from about 615m to 640m. Hence, the bushes grown here – including those that supply this beautifully made tea – are classified as 'mid-grown'.

If you want to try a perfect example of a traditionally manufactured Ceylon orthodox tea, this is the brew for you.

Other suggested Indian and Sri Lankan Black Teas

Everyone should have a caddy of Ceylon tea in their cupboard. Famous for their full-bodied and individualistic characters, they make lovely brews at any time of day, especially for breakfast. Our tasters have sampled some of Sri Lanka's best for you to enjoy, including the full-bodied Luxury Pekoe, Ahinsa, Ruhuna and Bogawantalawa teas. Adam's Peak has a lovely rich flavour and an abundance of silver tips. Or, for a more delicate style, look to Nuwara Eliya or the high-grown Lover's Leap.

If you want a perfectly made cup of tea, you need the right tools. Equip yourself with our range of teaware, which runs from elegant glass pitchers to bright and bold ceramics.
