Frequently Asked Questions

What does peppermint tea taste like?

Peppermint tea has a naturally fresh, cooling flavour with a distinctive menthol character. It is smooth, clean and refreshing, with subtle natural sweetness and no bitterness when brewed correctly. The invigorating mint aroma and crisp finish make it enjoyable both hot and as a refreshing iced tea.

How many cups of peppermint tea can I drink a day?

For most healthy adults, enjoying 2 to 4 cups of peppermint tea a day is generally considered suitable as part of a balanced diet. As peppermint tea is naturally caffeine-free, it can be enjoyed throughout the day, whether after meals to support digestion or in the evening as a relaxing herbal infusion.

Is peppermint tea caffeine-free?

Yes. Peppermint tea is naturally caffeine-free because it is made from peppermint leaves rather than the Camellia sinensis tea plant. This makes it an excellent alternative to black or green tea for those reducing their caffeine intake or looking for a calming drink in the evening.

Does peppermint tea have any side effects I should be aware of?

Peppermint tea is generally well tolerated by most people when consumed in moderation. However, some individuals may find that peppermint can worsen symptoms of acid reflux or heartburn. Those with allergies to plants in the mint family should avoid it, and anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or managing a medical condition should seek advice from a healthcare professional if unsure whether peppermint tea is suitable for them.

When is the best time to drink peppermint tea?

Peppermint tea can be enjoyed at any time of day. Many people choose to drink it after meals because it is traditionally associated with supporting digestion, while others enjoy it in the evening as a naturally caffeine-free herbal tea. Its refreshing flavour also makes it an excellent choice as a cooling iced tea during warmer months.

Region

Michigan State, USA

Michigan is well-known for its high-quality peppermint cultivation, attributed to its rich, well-drained soil and temperate climate. The state experiences cold winters, with temperatures often dropping below freezing, and warm summers averaging between 22°C and 28°C, which are ideal for peppermint growth. These conditions enable the plant to develop a robust root system during the cooler months, allowing it to flourish in the moderate summer heat and accumulate menthol, which provides the refreshing, cooling sensation characteristic of peppermint.

The region benefits from consistent rainfall, typically ranging between 600mm to 900mm annually, which supports healthy plant growth and enhances oil production. With an elevation ranging from 174m near the Great Lakes to 600m in higher areas, Michigan offers varied conditions, but peppermint cultivation thrives particularly in areas with well-drained, slightly elevated land. Harvesting occurs in late July or early August when the oils in the leaves are at their peak, just before flowering. This timing is crucial to ensure the oils have the highest quality and intensity, making Michigan peppermint an essential component in premium teas, flavourings, and aromatherapy products. The state's favourable agricultural conditions make it a leading producer of peppermint with vibrant aroma and flavour.

    Poor quality

Poor quality tea it says it’s caffeine free but it’s actually does have a little bit caffeine in it when you drink it , it doesn’t even keep you relaxed or calm lol

    Hello, Qas

Thank you for sharing this feedback.

We'd like to reassure you that our Peppermint Leaves are completely caffeine-free. As a herbal infusion made purely from Peppermint Leaves and not from the Camellia Sinensis plant, it contains no caffeine or natural stimulants.

Peppermint is naturally uplifting and refreshing, which can sometimes feel invigorating rather than deeply calming. If you're looking for something specifically soothing and relaxing, we would recommend our Whole Chamomile Blossoms, which are traditionally enjoyed for their gentle, calming qualities.

We're sorry this tea was not quite what you were hoping for, but we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

    Many Thanks,
    The Tea Makers of London
