Friends of the ETP

Friends of the Ethical Tea Partnership

We are delighted to announce as of September 2024 we are officially a Friend of the Ethical Tea Partnership.

As Friends of ETP, The Tea Makers of London will further ETP’s mission to catalyse long-term, systemic change, to benefit everybody who works in tea – especially people in tea-producing regions. Friends of ETP is an exclusive membership category for small and start-up tea companies, offering a chance to support ETP’s mission while accessing key membership benefits.

What is the ETP?

ETP is a global membership organisation working to catalyse long-term, systemic change, to benefit everybody who works in tea – especially people in tea-producing regions.

ETP’s work addresses the key issues within economics, equality, and the environment. It focuses on delivering locally led projects that involve communities, supporting the private sector to pioneer new business models, and engaging stakeholders to support policies that positively impact people in tea.

ETP’s members include a range of tea companies, from the sector’s start-ups to the biggest multi-nationals. ETP convenes and facilitates collaboration between its members, businesses, governments, and civil society which enable it to mobilise its resources and deliver its broad range of work.

Founded in 1997, ETP is a non-profit organisation and is supported by both its international members and other private and public sector donors.

How we are supporting this mission

The Tea Makers of London works directly with tea estates and independent farmers, ensuring that all our tea is sourced from suppliers where worker welfare is paramount.

This was extremely important to our founder, Sam, who worked on tea plantations for years before starting the company, giving him an understanding of the need for industry wide cooperation to tackle the issues facing tea workers across the globe.

Our commitment to sustainability aligns with ETP's vision of a thriving, socially just, and environmentally sustainable tea sector.

Sam Sameen, The Tea Makers Founder added:

“Joining ETP is a natural extension of our commitment to responsible business practices, and we are excited to draw on ETP’s expertise in this area. We believe in the importance of supporting the communities and ecosystems that sustain tea production, and we are excited to actively contribute to the impactful work that ETP is leading.”

We look forward to working closely with the ETP, supporting it in achieving its goals to ensure that the tea industry is an equitable force for good in the world.

“We are thrilled to welcome The Tea Makers of London into our global membership. Together, we look forward to working towards a more equitable future for all those involved in tea production.”

Tom Franks, ETP’s Chair of the Board of Directors
