Light & Floral First Flush Darjeeling Tea

Darjeeling House Blend No. 08 is an elegant interpretation of classic First Flush Darjeeling. Crafted from early spring leaves grown in the elevated, monsoonal hills of West Bengal, this refined loose-leaf tea showcases the naturally aromatic and delicately sweet qualities that have earned Darjeeling its global reputation as the Champagne of teas.

Expect a light, floral fragrance, soft sweetness and a signature muscatel brightness that makes First Flush Darjeeling so distinctive. With its amber infusion, refreshingly clean profile and gently astringent finish, this award-winning blend is ideal for tea lovers seeking clarity, refinement and the uplifting complexity of high grown Indian black tea.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Light amber infusion with a soft golden glow.
Aroma: Floral brightness with hints of orange blossom and gentle sweetness.
Flavour: Fresh, delicate and muscatel rich with sweet high notes, subtle fruit tones and a refreshing lift.
Finish: Clean, lightly astringent and elegantly fragrant.
With Milk: Not typically required as the natural sweetness is best appreciated on its own.
Black: Refreshing, fragrant and beautifully clear.

Ingredients

100% Pure Indian Black Tea
(Darjeeling, India)

How to Brew

You can discover our in depth black tea brewing guide to learn how to brew the perfect cup of tea. Use these quick steps to brew the perfect cup:

  • 1–2 teaspoons (2-3g) per cup
  • 200ml of fresh filtered boiled water (100°C)
  • Steep 3–5 minutes
  • Enjoy black or with milk

For a teapot, use 1-2 teaspoons per person, 600ml to 1l depending on teapot size, plus one extra teaspoon for the pot. (2 to 3g per person, with an additional 2g for the pot to ensure balance.)

For a stronger cup, use a little more tea and brew for a minute longer. For a lighter cup, simply reduce the leaf and shorten the steeping time. Feel free to experiment to find the balance that makes your perfect cup.

Production & Leaf Grades

Featuring the very first handpicked leaves of spring, with fine rolled leaves and tender green tips, the minimal oxidation technique preserves the fresh, fragrant character that defines premium First Flush Darjeeling.

This careful craftsmanship results in a bright amber liquor with floral vivacity, muscatel clarity and a clean, refreshingly dry finish.

Wellbeing & Potential Benefits

As a pure Indian black tea, Darjeeling House Blend 08 is naturally rich in polyphenol antioxidants and offers a gentle caffeine lift. Many tea drinkers choose Darjeeling as a lighter, more fragrant alternative to other black teas. Its clean taste, clarity and calorie free nature make it a popular choice for a mindful daily routine.

Darjeeling House Blend Origin and Craftsmanship

This First Flush tea originates from the celebrated tea gardens of Darjeeling in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. Grown between 90 and 1,750 metres, the region’s steep slopes, rocky mineral rich soils, cool mountain air and shifting patterns of sunshine and rainfall create a mosaic of microclimates that shape the nuanced, highly prized flavour of Darjeeling tea.

Unlike many Indian black teas derived from the larger assamica tea bush, Darjeeling is traditionally produced from the small leaf Camellia sinensis sinensis variety introduced in the nineteenth century. Leaves are minimally oxidised, closer in style to green tea processing, which preserves their natural fragrance and vibrant sweetness.

Expert rolling and gentle handling of the tender, silvery green early season leaves bring out their distinctive muscatel character and floral top notes. Awarded by the Great Taste Awards and the Guild of Fine Foods, this tea is celebrated for its purity, craft and exceptional seasonal quality.

Region

Darjeeling, India

Darjeeling, nestled in the Himalayas of West Bengal, is bordered by Nepal, Sikkim, and Bangladesh. The district, rising to elevations from 1,000m to 3,600m, presents a dramatic landscape that supports diverse microclimates from subtropical to tundra. This variance allows Darjeeling to produce its unique high-grown teas, which are world-renowned for their delicate and complex flavours. The city itself, positioned at 2,100m, offers stunning views of Kanchenjunga and even distant Mount Everest from Tiger Hill. Darjeeling’s climate varies significantly with elevation, featuring wet, overcast summers and mild, clear winters, ideal for tea cultivation.

The tea gardens thrive on steep slopes, benefiting from efficient drainage and rich biodiversity, including rare orchids and the endangered red panda. Despite its proximity to Assam, Darjeeling’s teas are remarkably distinct, thanks to its unique topography and climatic conditions. The soil here, loose and prone to landslides, contrasts with Assam’s fertile plains, yet provides perfect conditions for the Camellia sinensis plant, resulting in teas that burst with flavour each spring.
