The origins of our Organic Vanilla Rooibos teabag envelopes

Sourced from South Africa where the Aspalathus linearis, a member of the Fabaceae family of plant, grows natively, Rooibos or Red Bush, so named because of the fresh green rooibos leaves turn a distinctive red colour following oxidization, is a caffeine-free herbal tea that has been growing in popularity over recent years.

Like our standard luxury Organic Rooibos tea, this Tisane, another name for a Herbal Tea, has the same features the same single-origin South African loose-leaf from the Western Cape, but with added vanilla pieces and natural vanilla flavouring. Once the small, needle-like leaves have infused with boiling water, a bright orange infusion is seen.

For those who already love the full-bodied, earthy caramel and creamy taste of Red Bush, this blend elevates expectations with a mild vanilla sweet aftertaste that is ever so moreish. Enjoy as a hot or cold brew, with or without milk and sweetener.

One of the best features of drinking Rooibos tea is its similar taste to black tea. However, a cup of Rooibos can be enjoyed at any time of the day thanks to it being naturally caffeine-free.

The health benefits of Rooibos

Rooibos is full of benefiical anti-oxidants, notably aspalathin, a polyphenol with potential anti-diabetic properties, is only found in rooibos. Our Vanilla Rooibos tea is also a rich source of antioxidants, which may assist with lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease. All our rooibos is organic and completely free from pesticides and other chemicals.

Alternatives to this South African loose leaf tea

If you like our Vanilla Rooibos tea, you may like to try our original single-origin loose Rooibos loose leaf. Other great alternatives exist where Rooibos is an ingredient such as within the Chai of Madagascar or Eden Bliss herbal teas.

Ingredients

South African Rooibos, Natural Flavouring and Organic Vanilla Pieces (1.5%)

Region

The Western Cape province is the Southernmost landmass of the African continent, an L-shaped province extending north and east from the Cape of Good Hope, with 400km of coast along the Atlantic Ocean and 500km eastward along the Southern Indian Ocean.

Learn more about Western Cape Province, South Africa

The topography of this large province is exceptionally diverse, semiarid plateaus in the central part, rocky escarpments at the northern boundary and spectacular coastlines of sandy beaches and rocky capes. The climates are just as varied. The coastal areas experience a temperate oceanic climate, whilst the regions inland experience semi-arid (hot or cold) or cold desert (Bwk) climates.

Rooibos comes from Cederberg, a mountainous municipality 300km north of Cape Town, along the Atlantic Coast. The elevation there ranges from 800 to over 1,800m above sea level. The climate there is hot, semi-arid (BSh), with hot or extremely hot summers (December to February in the southern hemisphere) and warm to cool winters (June to August), with minimal precipitation and usually clear skies.

The quantity of arable land is limited by both the terrain and the climate, so agricultural production is marginal. Rooibos tea, however, is the area’s most famous produce, as well as fruit tobacco, wine and proteas. The region is home to leopards, caracals, meerkats, mongooses, antelopes and zebras, as well as numerous birds, smaller mammals, reptiles and insects.
