How to brew loose-leaf tea

The main thing you need is an infuser!

We offer a thoughtfully chosen selection infusers and teaware, perfect for brewing the ideal cup every time.

Both our Scoop Infuser and our Ball Infusers are designed to be easy to use, and both utensils work double-time as both a tea scoop and a loose-leaf tea infuser, making brewing as easy as can be. Simply scoop up your favourite tea leaves, seal the infuser and pop it into your cup and enjoy!

For mugs and small teapots, our One Cup Infuser is perfect. You add the tea leaves to the basket, rest on the rim of the mug or teapot, pour the water through, and once infused pick up and put on the side.

All are stunning new additions to our Golden Teaware Collection, a selection of versatile, elegant tea infusers, designed for loose-leaf tea.

Some teapots and infuser mugs have the infuser inside them, making brewing really simple!

Our Easy Teapot  features a built-in strainer in the lid, so you simply add the tea leaves and water, then pour – the leaves stay in the pot while your cup is perfectly filtered

Designed to withstand boiling heat, but still allowing you to admire the beautiful process of the tea leaves infusing, this is our absolute favourite teapot.

How do you brew different types of tea?

All tea has recommended brewing instructions to ensure that you enjoy the very best cup.

As a general rule, we’ve grouped together the main tea types and their brewing times

Black Tea Brewing Guide

  • Heat water to 90-100C (boiling)
  • 3-5 minutes brewing time

Green Tea Brewing Guide

  • Heat water to 70-80C (any hotter will make the tea too bitter)
  • 2-4 minutes brewing time

Herbal Tea Brewing Guide

  • Heat water to 100C (boiling)
  • 4-5 minutes brewing time

Each of the teas we sell has specific brewing instructions on the packaging, in case you need a reminder on the best way to brew.

The longer you brew the tea, the stronger the flavour, although it will also start to become bitter after the 5 minute mark.

Is loose-leaf tea better than teabags?

We certainly think so!

Loose leaf tea is generally made using tea leaves of much higher quality than the ones used for supermarket teabags. Loose-leaf provides more flavour, as the tea leaves have room to move and swirl while infusing, unlocking more complex notes, and it’s a more authentic experience, connecting you with centuries of tea brewing tradition.

Loose-leaf is better for the environment, as it requires less packaging and produces less waste as a result. Once brewed, tea leaves can be directly added to the compost, which is great for your garden plants.

Does tea contain microplastics?

Many companies use teabags which do contain microplastics, often from the adhesive used to seal it.

Both our loose-leaf tea and our Triune teabags are microplastic-free

Our Triune teabags are made from a corn-starch based fabric, and are 100% biodegradable. We use the same premium leaves in our loose-leaf tea as we do in our teabags, so you can enjoy a quality cuppa knowing there’s no nasty microplastics, and you can add it to the compost when finished.
