Assam Tea
What is Assam Tea?
Assam tea is black tea grown in the Assam state in Northeast India. This state is responsible for over half of India's tea production- and with India being one of the world's largest tea producers, that's a lot of tea!
Tea is a way of life here, with the landscape dominated by rows and rows of tea farms. Assam tea is mostly consumed domestically, being a staple of every Indian household, but is also exported around the world as one of the most recognised teas.
What does Assam Tea Taste Like?
Assam tea should have a robust, full-bodied and strong flavour, perfect for enjoying with milk and sugar, like our Assam Breakfast - although good quality Assam can also be enjoyed without, such as our single-estate Assam Mangalam.
This strong flavour makes it the perfect traditional base for Masala Chai and Karak Chai; the addition of aromatic spices complements Assam tea, without it losing its own flavour.
