Matcha’s origins lie in the ancient Japanese tea ceremony but this unique brew fits perfectly into modern life. How To Brew Matcha

Unlike other teas, matcha is made by whisking the powder with water, traditionally with a Bamboo Whisk, although you can use an electric whisk for speed.  Measure 1-2g of matcha using our Perfect Matcha Measuring Spoon and place it into a cup or traditional matcha bowl. Add a small amount of 80C water and start whisking in an ‘M’ shape  with a traditional bamboo whisk (or electric whisk). Gradually add the rest of the 80C water and continue to whisk until the texture becomes thick and creamy.

Which Matcha to Choose?

Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is a wonderful crowd-pleasing Matcha, excellent for drinking traditionally or adding to lattes and smoothies, and our  Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha is an even more premium offering, perfect for the health-conscious. 

We offer both in stylish caddies of either 40g or 100g, as well as larger catering sizes for the matcha fanatics! With the 100g caddy, cost per cup works out at 99p - much cheaper than a matcha latte from a cafe, which costs on average £5 and is usually made using lower quality matcha or matcha concentrate.

How Matcha is Made 

We source our matcha from Ise Bay in Mie Prefecture, located on the Pacific coast of Japan. The green tea used for matcha is called tencha, and this tea is produced specifically to be ground into matcha powder. The tea plant used is the Yabikita tea cultivar.

To produce the high levels of pigment, chlorophyll and healthy amino acids such as L-theanine, the leaves are covered, or shade-grown, for 20 days before being harvested during the spring, or the Ichibancha. The fine powder is then made by slowly stone milling de-stemmed and de-veined leaves, a process that requires exceptional skill and patience.
