Won’t a teaspoon and balloon whisk do?
In a word, no! Originally from China, the chashaku spatula has been designed specifically as the traditional tool for measuring out matcha. With a shallower bowl than a regular spoon, it functions more as a scoop, and gives you better control over how much matcha you’re adding to your bowl. (One scoop equates to about a third of a teaspoon.)

The whisk, or ‘chasen’, meanwhile, doesn’t just whisk your matcha – it froths it, thanks to those springy bamboo prongs that prevent the green tea powder from clumping in water. The result is a beautifully smooth, clean green brew.
To prepare the Matcha whisk for use, put it into a cup of warm water for a few minutes to ensure the whisk is pliable (dry whisks can be brittle and prone to breakage).
To make them last for a long time, clean your Matcha Whisk and Chashaku Spoon with hot water straight after use, and make sure you keep them dry. To prevent any warping or misshaping of the bamboo whisk, we recommend using our Matcha Whisk Holder, made of smart black porcelain.
